Day Trip from Casablanca to Chefchaouen

Casablanca – Chefchaouen

In the morning, the driver will pick you up from your accommodation in Casablanca. You will then begin a beautiful drive to Chefchaouen, which will take around 4 hours. During the journey, relax in our air-conditioned vehicle and take in the breathtaking Moroccan landscapes that you will encounter along the route.

Upon arrival in Chefchaouen, also known as the Blue Pearl of Morocco, you will be instantly captivated by the stunning blue-washed buildings and the serene atmosphere that surrounds this charming city. An experienced English-speaking local guide will meet you and lead the group on a walking tour of the city.

You will start by exploring the historic Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take the time to wander through the labyrinth of narrow, winding streets adorned with bright blue buildings, and capture postcard-worthy photographs. This unique color palette, believed to symbolize spirituality and bring good luck, is what makes Chefchaouen truly stand out.

Next, you will visit the Great Mosque, an architectural masterpiece dating back to the 15th century. While entry is prohibited for non-Muslims, the mosque boasts a charming exterior that makes it worthwhile to briefly stop here, and if you are fortunate, you may even witness the locals engaged in their daily prayers.

Continue your guided walk to Plaza Uta el-Hammam, the main square of the city. Here, you will find a variety of cafes and restaurants where you can take a break and savor some traditional Moroccan cuisine or refreshing mint tea while absorbing the lively atmosphere around you.

Spend some time browsing the stalls filled with a wide array of handicrafts, including woven rugs, leather goods, pottery, jewelry, and traditional clothes. Take the opportunity to interact with local artisans and perhaps purchase a beautiful souvenir to commemorate your visit.

Next, visit the Kasbah Museum also known as Ethnographic Museum. It is a 15th-century fortress built by the city’s founder, Moulay Ali Ben Moussa Ben Rached El Alami, who is said to be the descendant of the Prophet Mohammed.

Take time to visit the beautiful garden and enjoy a collection of musical instruments, traditional costumes, weapons, and many ceramic objects.

For those seeking panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountains, embark on a short hike (20-25 minutes from the bottom to top) to the nearby Spanish Mosque. Enjoy the breathtaking vistas of Chefchaouen from this vantage point as the sun casts its golden hues on the blue-washed buildings and the Rif Mountains in the backdrop.

The hike is not difficult, but we recommend wearing closed shoes as the path is gravelly and can be slippery.

There is also another hike to Ras El-Maa, a scenic waterfall nestled in the verdant hills surrounding Chefchaouen. Take a leisurely stroll along the bubbling stream, and immerse yourself in the tranquility of the natural surroundings.

This spot offers a perfect retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle, allowing you to connect with nature and recharge your senses.

For nature enthusiasts, Chefchaouen is also the gateway to some other stunning hike trails in the Rif Mountains. You can venture on a short hike to the nearby Akchour Waterfalls or explore the nearby Talassemtane National Park, where you can witness the untouched beauty of Moroccan nature.

As the day draws to a close, we will embark on our return journey to Casablanca, where our driver will drive you to your accommodation at Casablanca, ending the excursion.
