Stop 1: Ifrane
As we commence our journey through the stunning Middle Atlas Mountains, we will make our way through the enchanting town of Ifrane. Renowned for its pristine cleanliness, picturesque snowy landscapes, and quaint alpine-inspired homes, Ifrane has rightfully earned its title as the “Switzerland of Morocco.”
Our itinerary grants us a delightful opportunity to pause for a while in this coveted winter holiday destination, allowing you to stretch your legs and savor a steaming cup of coffee.
Stop 2: Azrou
Continuing our drive, we will then venture into the Cedar Forest of Azrou. As we wander through the ancient trees, keep an eye out for the mischievous Barbary macaques, native to this area. Feel free to interact with these friendly creatures and even feed them. And of course snap some memorable photos!
Stop 3: Midelt
Next, we’ll continue our journey southwards towards Midelt, a small town beautifully situated between the Middle Atlas and the High Atlas Mountain ranges and is known for its stunning panoramic views and rich mineral deposits.
Marvel at the diverse landscapes as we pass through lush green valleys, barren hills, and winding roads adorned with colorful Berber villages.
We’ll take time and soak in the beauty and relish an authentic Moroccan meal during our time here. Spend the night at your cozy guest house.
Stop 1: The She Camel Pass and Ziz Valley
After enjoying a delicious breakfast at your hotel, we will continue onward, to reach the highlight of our day – the gateway to the Sahara Desert, Merzouga!
We will drive through the beautiful Ziz Valley, the second-longest river in the country. Everywhere you look, you will encounter charming “ksars” – small villages made up of individual houses.
These traditional mud-brick villages offer a glimpse into the authentic local lifestyle and architecture, creating a truly picturesque atmosphere. We will take a pause along the way to admire the oasis and its panoramic view.
Stop 2: Er Rachidia
Continuing our journey, we reach the mining town of Er Rachidia. This town is known for its rich reserves of copper and malachite, which have played a significant role in its economic development.
Take a moment to marvel at the ingenuity of the mining operations and gain insights into the local industry.
Stop 3: Erfoud
Our next destination is Erfoud, a vibrant town famous for its annual date festival and fossil discoveries. As we explore Erfoud, you will have the opportunity to witness the remarkable process of transforming millions of fossils into exquisite artifacts.

Stop 4: Rissani
Our journey continues to the historic town of Rissani, known as the birthplace of the Alaouite Dynasty. Here, you will be captivated by the town’s rich cultural heritage and architectural marvels, including the impressive Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif.
Stop 5: Red Erg Chebbi Dunes
Finally, prepare yourself for the grand finale of the day – the famous red Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. As we approach these majestic sand dunes, you will be overwhelmed by their sheer size and beauty of the desert.
From here, you have two exciting options to experience the dunes: either embark on a camel ride to the camp or choose a thrilling 4×4 adventure.
Whichever you choose, you won’t miss the opportunity to witness the incredible sunset, a signature moment in this extraordinary landscape.
Stop 6: Camp
Then after these beautiful moments you’ll continue to the camp where you’ll be welcomed with a refreshing cup of tea and relax until dinner time.
Later in the evening, you will be serenaded with the rhythmic beats of traditional Berber drumming, while admiring the vast canopy of stars above. Conclude the night by resting in a cozy nomadic tent.
Start your day by witnessing the mesmerizing desert sunrise near the camp. After breakfast, we will head towards Tinghir and the Toudgha gorges.
Stop 1: Khettarat
On the way to Toudgha gorges, we will pass by the water channels called “Khettarat”. These channels are an ancient irrigation system that has been used for centuries in Morocco. The channels start at a higher gradient at one end until they finally emerge at the surface of the soil where they are fed into the fields.
We will explore these channels to appreciate the architecture and genius behind this form of irrigation.
Stop 2: Toudgha Gorges
Continuing our journey, we will reach the Toudgha Gorges. These towering canyon walls create a dramatic and picturesque landscape that is sure to leave you in awe.
Take a leisurely stroll through the gorge, immersing yourself in its natural beauty. Marvel at the power of nature as you witness the sheer cliffs rise up to 300 meters high on either side of you. You can also explore the nearby village gardens and fields, surrendering yourself in the rural charm of the area.
Stop 3: Dades Valley
Continuing our journey, we arrive at the Dades Valley—a geological marvel that holds the remnants of an ancient seabed. Millions of years ago, this very area was submerged beneath the sea, with massive quantities of sediment gradually accumulating around magnificent coral reefs.
As we traverse through the Dades Valley, you’ll witness firsthand the fascinating rock formations and breathtaking vistas that these geological transformations have bestowed upon this captivating region.
After a day filled with adventure and exploration, it is time to relax and unwind in a hotel or Kasbah.
Stop 1: Meeting the Berber Nomads
After breakfast, get ready for an enriching experience as we set off to explore Ouarzazte.
Leaving Dades Gorges behind, we embark on an exciting off-road adventure along the Boutaghar piste. Our journey takes us straight to the heart of Berber nomadic life, where we have the privilege of visiting these remarkable people in their caves.
Spend some time getting to know them as they open up their homes and share with us a traditional glass of Moroccan tea. This encounter offers a unique glimpse into their daily lives and a chance to appreciate their resilience and resourcefulness.
Stop 2: The Valley of Roses
From here, we will drive through the valley of the Roses, a beautiful area that blooms with fragrant roses every May. The roses are used to make cosmetics and toiletries, such as rose water, soap, and perfume that are highly valued throughout the country.
We will stop at a local cooperative, where we will see how these products are made and have the chance to buy some as souvenirs (if you wish).
Stop 3: Kasbah Amredhil
Our next stop will be Skoura, a charming oasis town, where we will visit the Kasbah Amredhil, one of the most impressive and well-preserved fortresses in Morocco. The kasbah was built in the 17th century and has been restored to its original glory, with its adobe walls, towers, and courtyards.
The kasbah also houses a museum, where we will see how the people lived in the past, with their furniture, utensils, and costumes. The kasbah is surrounded by palm trees and gardens, creating a contrast between the arid landscape and the green oasis.
Following our visit, we’ll continue our journey with a scenic drive of about 45 minutes, arriving at Ouarzazate, where we’ll enjoy a comfortable stay in a comfortable guest house.
Stop1: Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou
After breakfast, we will depart from Ouarzazate and head to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s seven World Heritage sites. This fortified village is the most famous kasbah in Morocco and has been used as a backdrop for many Hollywood movies, such as Gladiator, The Mummy, and Lawrence of Arabia.
Some of the buildings date back to the 17th century and showcase the traditional architecture and craftsmanship of the region. We will have a guided tour of the kasbah and admire its impressive towers, walls, and courtyards.
Stop 2: Ounila Valley
From Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, we will drive along the beautiful and awe-inspiring Ounila Valley, which follows the ancient caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. Along the way, we will see stunning views of the rock formations, the river, and the lush vegetation.
We will also pass by many Berber villages and gardens, as well as smaller kasbahs that dot the landscape. We will stop at some of the most picturesque spots to take photos and enjoy the scenery.
Stop 3: Telouet
We will continue our journey to Telouet, a small town set right in the midst of the mountains. Here, we will visit the Telouet Kasbah, once the seat of the last Pasha of Marrakech, El Glaoui. This kasbah was a symbol of power and wealth, today, it stands in ruins, exposed to the wind and the rain, but still retains some of its former glory and charm.
We will have a local guide (optional) who will show us the exterior of the kasbah and tell us about its rich and turbulent history.
Stop 4: Marrakech
After exploring the kasbah, our drive will continue via the High Atlas Mountains, across the “Tichka pass,” eventually taking us to Marrakech, where our 5-day Moroccan Desert tour from Fes concludes with a drop-off at your selected hotel.
