2 Day Marrakech Itinerary To Zagora

Day 1: Marrakech To Zagora Desert Through High Atlas Mountains

Your 2-day tour from Marrakech to Zagora desert will begin with a pickup from your riad at around 8:00 AM. You will board a comfortable and air-conditioned vehicle and head towards the south of Morocco.

Along the way, you will be amazed by the stunning views of the High Atlas Mountains, the highest mountain range in North Africa. The High Atlas Mountains are home to many Berber villages, where the locals live in harmony with nature and preserve their ancestral traditions. You will see their mud-brick houses, terraced fields, and colorful carpets hanging on the walls.

One of the highlights of the trip will be crossing the Tizi N Tichka Pass, the highest road pass in Morocco. It connects Marrakech with the Sahara region and offers spectacular panoramas of the valleys, gorges, and peaks.

After about 4 hours of driving, we will reach the impressive Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco. This ancient village is more than just a historical site, it is a living testimony of the rich Moroccan heritage and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah is also a star of the silver screen, having featured in many Hollywood blockbusters and TV shows, such as Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones.

We will have some free time for you to wander around on your own, take photos, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the valley and the mountains.

Camel ride in Zagora desert

After about 6 hours of driving from Marrakech, we will arrive at our final destination for the day, the Zagora Desert. It will be late in the evening, just in time for a camel ride to cross the dunes and catch the sunset, which is one of the most beautiful sights in the desert.

Our friendly camel guides will help you to mount your camel and give you some tips on how to ride them. Don’t worry, they are very gentle and well-trained animals. You will soon feel comfortable and enjoy the ride.

After about an hour of camel trekking, we will arrive at the desert camp, where you will be welcomed with a refreshing cup of mint tea. We will enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner, cooked by our hosts.

After dinner, we’ll be enchanted by the heartfelt melodies of local musicians, skillfully playing their traditional folk songs around a campfire.

Everyone will then retire to their tent, equipped with a comfortable mattress, a warm blanket, and a pillow, where the 1st day of our adventure ends.

Day 2: Zagora passing by Ouarzazate to Marrakech

As you wake up early in the morning, you will be greeted by the stunning sight of the sun rising over the small dunes of the Zagora desert. We will enjoy a typical breakfast in the bivouac of Zagora where you will taste the delicious local bread, jam, honey, and mint tea.

After breakfast, you will hop on your camel and ride back to the main road, where your driver will be waiting for you. We will then embark on a scenic drive back to Marrakech, passing through the beautiful landscapes of the Draa Valley, the Anti-Atlas Mountains, and the Ouarzazate region.

Upon arrival in Ouarzazate before having lunch, there will be free time to explore the famous Taourirt Kasbah, which was the former residence of the Glaoui family, the powerful rulers of the region in the 19th and 20th centuries.

In the afternoon, we will drive back to Marrakech via Atlas Mountain. We will arrive in Marrakech around 6 pm and the driver will drop you off at your accommodation. This will bring an end to your Marrakech desert tour.
